The Fortress Above the Clouds
The castle you climb in CastleClimb is older than any surviving map. No banner flies from its highest tower, and no kingdom openly claims it, yet every traveler knows its silhouette. It rises from a jagged cliff, its base swallowed by mist, its upper ramparts disappearing into the clouds.
Legends say the fortress was once a proving ground for knights who wished to serve an unknown king. Others claim it is a prison built for something that could not be buried beneath the earth. Whatever the truth, the castle now stands empty of guards and rulers — but it is far from safe.
Trials of the Climb
The traps that fill the fortress are not random. Each spike, moving platform, and pendulum appears placed with intention, as if some unseen architect wanted to test more than your reflexes. There is a rhythm to the castle, and those who climb often feel as though they are being watched.
Some climbers mark the walls with chalk or hang small tokens on safe platforms, leaving hints and warnings for those who follow. Over time, the interior has become a patchwork of faded messages, tally marks, and carved symbols from climbers you will never meet.
Whispers of the Summit
No one agrees on what waits at the top. The most common story speaks of a single throne made of dark stone, with a view that stretches across the entire world. Another tale insists that the castle is hollow at the summit — that you emerge not into a throne room, but into open air, standing on a narrow ledge above an endless sea of clouds.
CastleClimb does not answer these questions directly. Instead, each update may reveal new details: an inscription hidden behind a cracked wall, a new statue on a distant platform, or a banner whose colors hint at a forgotten kingdom. The lore of the fortress will grow alongside the mechanics of the climb.
